Tyrone is a town of about 7,700 people in the northwest corner of Fayette County, incorporated in 1911. Peachtree City is directly to the south and Coweta County is to the west. It is smaller and quieter than its neighbors, and most buyers come here for exactly that: Fayette County schools and a short drive to I-85, without the density of a bigger suburb.
Because Tyrone is small, inventory is thin. There are fewer homes for sale here at any one time than in Peachtree City or Fayetteville, and a good house can go quickly, so it pays to have your financing ready before you start touring.
Neighborhoods and housing
Tyrone’s housing is mostly single-family homes, in a mix of older and newer subdivisions. At the upper end are communities such as The Enclave at Stonecrest Preserve, where Rayshell has sold a listing. Parks and town life
Shamrock Park is the town’s main park: a paved walking track of about half a mile around the field and pond, catch-and-release fishing, tennis and basketball courts and playgrounds. The town is using money from its 2023 SPLOST – the voter-approved local sales tax for public projects – to add a new pavilion and stage there. For bigger amenities, Peachtree City’s lakes, path network and amphitheater are a few minutes south.

Tyrone is served by Fayette County Public Schools. Sandy Creek High School is on Jenkins Road in Tyrone, next to Burch Elementary and Flat Rock Middle School. Zoning depends on the address, so confirm the assigned schools for a specific house with the district, and get current performance information from the district or the Georgia Department of Education.
Commuting from Tyrone
Location is Tyrone’s biggest practical advantage. Highway 74 (Joel Cowan Parkway) runs about five miles north from Tyrone to I-85 on the south side of Fairburn, which puts Tyrone closer to the interstate than most of Fayette County. From there I-85 runs north past Hartsfield-Jackson into Atlanta. Peachtree City’s shopping and employers are a short drive south on the same highway.

- On larger lots, whether the home is on public water and sewer or on a well and septic system, and when the septic was last serviced.
- The HOA covenants for the subdivision, if there is one.
